National Logistics Day

27 Jun 2025

National Logistics Day is June 28, and Pasadena EDC extends its deepest gratitude to the skilled and dedicated individuals who are the backbone of the logistics industry in Pasadena, Texas, and beyond. The logistics industry is a complex web of professionals ensuring the smooth and efficient journey of deliverables ordered by businesses and consumers for personal and professional use. The tireless efforts of truck drivers, warehouse workers, forklift operators, shipping and receiving clerks, supply chain managers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers, among countless others, who work diligently to keep the economy moving, communities connected, and buyers satisfied. The unwavering commitment of the logistics industry ensures that goods reach their destinations, businesses thrive, and daily lives run seamlessly.

Logistics & Transportation Go Hand-in-Hand

Transportation has a paramount position in the logistics industry due to the variants of traffic routes, patterns, and volumes. Such detail is dynamic to all businesses transporting goods, causing companies to take deep dives into transportation infrastructures. Something as simple as Average Daily Traffic (ADT) and the Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT) on major highways and streets are vital to entities curating delivery schedules.

As it relates to transportation, we’ll use Amazon Prime to illustrate the importance and effectiveness of the logistics industry. Amazon Prime members are told they will receive an item in two calendar days. Until shipping starts, members do not know the item is shipping from Los Angeles, CA to Pasadena, TX. Yet, in two calendar days, whether it’s a weekday or weekend day, the item is delivered on time. How? Amazon Prime’s logistics analysts did the research to determine the quickest route to ship whether it’s through planes, trains, automobiles, or a combination of all travel options. The warehouse workers located the items and packaged them. The shipping and receiving clerks documented the information between multiple destinations to which the item(s) will travel. Knowing the ADT and AADT for when items finally get onto the delivery truck is crucial to Amazon Prime keeping the promised two-day delivery date.

Pasadena and Logistical Travel

The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Houston District and County Statistics (DISCOS) website details miles, lane miles, daily vehicle miles of travel (DVMT), and daily truck vehicle mileage. The latest info is from 2023, and during that time:

  • For the Houston District, the DVMT totaled 106,021,316.116.
  • For Harris County, the total was 69,420,211.479.
  • Harris County’s Truck DVMT for all State Highways totaled 1,031,291.840.

Located in Harris County, Pasadena has three major highways and functions as a critical nexus for regional and national logistics within the Houston metropolitan area. Its proximity to major ports and industrial complexes makes Pasadena a prime destination for freight movement. Pasadena’s SH-225, Beltway 8, and SH-146 are logistics arteries throughout Harris County. Here is an illustrative view of 2024’s AADT each highway received:

For accurate data, logistics analysts rely on information obtained from TxDOT STARS II and reports not privy to the public until later in the year. The 2023 reports were not available until November 2024.

Celebrate Logistics Day
