Pasadena, Texas, is the second-largest city in the Greater Houston Metro Area. Home to 150,000 residents, Pasadena also attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists annually. People visit Pasadena for its proximity to Space Center Houston, its ample hotels, and its diverse amenities. Between the full-time residents and visitor base, Pasadena is ripe for development.

“Consumer-facing companies are reaching out to us,” says Arturo Marquez, Director of Economic Development for the Pasadena Economic Development Corporation. “They see which communities are growing and want to move to high-potential markets. We check a lot of boxes for those businesses.”

See why Pasadena is an ideal option for national chains, franchisees, and local entrepreneurs connecting with their target audiences. Here are five indicators that Pasadena is the place to be.

1. Pasadena Has Economical Housing Options

Houston is the fourth-largest city in the United States and is preparing to overtake Chicago. It is already the fifth-most populous metropolitan area, and more people are moving here. These new residents need somewhere to live, and Pasadena is one of the few communities prepared to welcome these Texans home.

There are multiple projects in place for new construction, supporting increased movement to the Houston area. Living here is also affordable. According to Zillow, the average Pasadena home value is $219,000. People moving to Pasadena want to spend less on their monthly mortgage payments and more on the enjoyable parts of life.

2. Residents Spend More on Food and Entertainment

The 2025 Consumer Expenditure Data proves what the Pasadena Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) already knew: our Pasadena residents like to have fun. Nationally, Americans spend $3,945 annually on food away from home (as opposed to purchasing groceries and preparing their own meals). Pasadena residents spent an average of $4,362 per household per year.

Pasadena residents also spend more on entertainment. They spend an average of $5,746 per household annually on entertainment, compared to $3,609 nationally.

This data is clear: Pasadena residents prefer to spend their money at local restaurants, at annual events like the Strawberry Festival, and on recreational activities. There’s an opportunity here for companies looking to enter a large metro area and tap into a consumer base seeking their next favorite meal or hobby.

3. Pasadena is a Family-Friendly Community

Pasadena’s demographic data highlights the city's family-centric nature. There are 52,787 households in Pasadena, and 39,604 families. When asked about household size, only 20% of Pasadena residents live alone. Just over half of households have three or more people, highlighting how families with kids or aging parents are welcome here.

This focus on family life is evident throughout the community. The parks are filled with events each week, restaurants cater to kids (some even cater to dogs), and new entertainment options keep opening. New businesses that open with the goal of reaching family units will be successful in Pasadena.

4. Visitors Come to Pasadena From Across the Houston Metro

Visit Pasadena attracts visitors from across the United States, especially for popular annual events like the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo. PEDC has recently started working with Placer.AI to track foot traffic and the greater economic impact of tourism in the community.

The results are staggering. In 2025, more than 222,000 unique visitors came to the Pasadena Convention Center, with an average attendance of 1.76 times annually. Local events attracted out-of-state visitors, boosting hotel stays and restaurant sales. These events also attracted guests from across Houston, turning locals into tourists for the day.

The Placer.AI map below showcases how people from Houston get to Pasadena. It highlights how far people are willing to drive locally to attend these events.

Pasadena is a viable location for businesses based on its population alone, but it also allows companies to reach thousands of tourists and millions of Houston residents each year.

5. More Hotels Are Opening in Pasadena

One of the best indicators that Pasadena is the place to be in Houston (and Houston is the place to be in the United States) is the rise of new hotel locations in town. More hotel franchises and corporate locations have recently opened within Pasadena's city limits. This is in direct response to the PEDC’s increased efforts to attract visitors and its tourism spending.

“A new hotel in Pasadena sends ripples through the economy,” says Marquez. “Visitors don’t just stay on-site when they check into the Fairfield Inn and Suites or La Quinta. They spend money at local restaurants, buy from stores, and attend events.”

Business owners and site selectors who work closely with PEDC and track development in Pasadena can take advantage of it early on. They can find strategic locations that attract resident and tourist customers, creating stable, sustained sales as this city grows.
