News
Workforce Development Month was created in 2005 to raise awareness and highlight the value generated by workforce development professionals who are conduits for businesses looking to hire and train educated, knowledgeable, and talented job seekers. Workforce development professionals create, manage, support, and execute programs to ensure their job seekers are ready and businesses are well-staffed.
Local Workforce Development (Pasadena)
Pasadena, Texas, continues to power possibilities for its young, diverse residents. In 2018, Pasadena Economic Development Corp (PEDC) created a five-year strategic plan with six key focuses, and number three, “Workforce: Grow, attract, and retain tomorrow’s top-tier talent.”
Being home to a thriving educational ecosystem, the City of Pasadena offers the workforce learning and assistance through a myriad of programs such as:
- San Jacinto College for applied trades, veterans, CTE, and internships
- San Jacinto College Career Support
- Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Workforce Center
- University of Houston - Clear Lake Career Services
These programs and more will educate, train, and assist all job seekers wanting to earn a living by utilizing the skills they have and acquired. Pasadena understands more jobs equal stability, and stability equals a thriving economy.
Statewide Workforce Development (TX)
Texas is well-equipped to ensure residents are ready and able to secure the quality of life they seek while helping sustain their community and grow with the Texas Workforce Solutions (TWS). TWS is a statewide network of 28 Workforce Development Boards, four Texas Workforce Commission unemployment benefits tele-centers, and a host of contracted service providers and community partners. Together, TWS is determined to meet the needs of employers and residents alike to help Texans prosper.
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is a main cog in the TWS machine, believing there must be a skilled worker for every employer and a job for every Texan that wants one.” With Texas being the second largest state in America, it’s understood why the list of workforce development programs is diverse, with over 30 offerings. Currently, the featured offerings are:
- Texas Rising Star Program - Helps attain child care certification exceeding Child Care Regulation minimum standards.
- Texas Industry Partnership Program - Supports training for high-demand jobs.
- Skills for Small Business Program - Supports businesses with less than 100 employees, focusing on full-time worker training.
- Apprenticeship Program - Supports the creation and expansion of apprenticeships throughout the state, helping employees to progress in their careers.
